Dear Friends,
it is with a very heavy heart that I write this letter
to you. My darling, wonderful, valiant little stallion, Nefydd Buccaneer
(Bucky), is in the hospital in Barcelona. He is gravely ill. Through
no fault of his own or of anyone else, he has contracted the worst
form of laminitis possible.
I am fighting for him, for his life. We all are. He
has given so much pleasure to so many people, he has been a joy
to watch in the ring, in his stable, in his paddock, with "his
children". This little stallion deserves to live, he has never
put a foot wrong in his life.
He was operated on on Friday the 1st. of June on all
four feet. This immensely brave pony wants to live. The signs are
all there. He knows us all, he looks for us. He is eating and searching
for more carrots all the time. The staff in the hospital love him
and each and everyone of them takes him carrots each day. One of
his carers rang me to say he will be so fed up of carrots by the
end of all this he will never want to see another one. He is interested
and animated. He also suffers a lot a pain which at times is hard
for him to bear, but he does. He is just amazing.
He is very ill but with the help of us all, from the
fantastic and competent staff in the hospital at Bellaterra, to
the most humble donation, I feel so strongly that we can save him.
It would be such a great loss to the world of ponies if we don't.
I am writing quite unashamedly to ask you for help,
for the smallest donation to the largest. Every € counts, every
€ or dollar or pound is one unit closer to being able to save
him. He has to stay in the hospital for at least eight weeks. The
costs are very high.
